The Women Who Created Swedenby Vad händer i Sverige
Stortorget 2, 114 44 Stockholm
The streets of Stockholm carry stories that rarely make it to the history books. On this city walk you will have the chance to follow in the footsteps of women who shaped Sweden's history from the Viking Age until today. From strong Viking women and medieval saints to 19th-century women's cafés and the struggle for suffrage, this tour gives you a unique insight into the women who defied norms and paved the way for future generations.
What is included
Hear about women who challenged society, from Gustav II Adolf's mistress to Sweden's first female entrepreneur.
Discover hidden places in the Old Town.
Learn how the view of women has changed.
Hands during the city walk
We gather at the Nobel Museum's right staircase in the heart of the Old Town. From here, a knowledgeable guide will guide you through Stockholm's narrow alleys and historic quarters. During the one-hour walk you will learn about the role of Viking women in society, how women's suffrage began in the free churches as early as the 19th century, and about the city's more unknown history of women. The stories are woven together with fascinating facts and unexpected revelations about women's struggles and progress through the centuries.
It will be a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the events that have made Sweden one of the most equal countries in the world and the work that remains.
