**What do you get to experience during the city walk? **
During the hike, participants will discover how Blasieholmen was once an island of its own, separated from Norrmalm by the water river Näckström. Peter Frisk tells us about the many names the place has had throughout history, from Käpplingen in medieval stories to Skeppsholmen when Stockholm's ship yard was moved here in the 16th century.
When the shipyard later moved on to present-day Skeppsholmen, the area changed and gradually acquired its current name, Blasieholmen, the origin of which remains something of a historical mystery.
You will also hear about how the area around today's Nationalmuseum used to consist of its own small islet, Myntholmen, later called Kyrkholmen after the Admiralty Church built there in the 17th century. The narrow channel between the islets was filled again when the Nationalmuseum was erected in the 19th century.
Today, history and the present meet here, with buildings such as the Grand Hôtel, the Strand Hotel, the Masonic Order and several classic restaurants.
