Hands During City Walk
You will start your walk at Färgaregården, where you will learn about the traditional handicraft art behind dyeing fabrics. Here dyers and apprentices lived and worked as dyed textiles for armies and tradesmen.
At Barnangen, which was once Sweden's largest clothing manufacturer, you will get an insight into the working conditions of children and the toil of factory workers. What did their days look like? What were their prospects? The stories evoke both empathy and reflection.
Next stop is the foster care facility on Gaveliusgatan, where you will get to know Olivia Åberg, a woman with a vision of giving girls a new chance in life. Here you get a feel for the challenges and opportunities these young girls faced.
You will end the walk at Sofia Church, after visiting places where the Bible woman Elsa Borg missioned and helped the vulnerable. You leave the walk with a deeper understanding of Södermalm's rich history and the people who shaped the place over the centuries.
